Jog Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in India. Jog Falls is also known by alternative names like Gerusoppa Falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi.

We started our journey from Murudeshwar after breakfast at Kamath Restaurant. For about 10 kilometres, we kept watching 'Bada Shiva', after which it disappeared from our vision.

The road was excellent and full of greenery. We then started ascending a mountain, and thus the car took frequent turns. It took us about 3 hours to reach Jog Falls, which is hardly a 120 kilometers distance.

Driving through the beautiful Sharavathi valley, we stopped at a view point at Sharavathi suspension bridge over the ragingly flowing Sharavathi river. While enjoying the picture-postcard gorgeous views, we drove through the foggy roads in the dense forests.

Jog Falls is tucked amongst natural settings in the Western Ghats of India in the northern part of the state of Karnataka. Jog Falls is formed by the waters of the Sharavathi river, which originates at a place called Ambuthirtha in Karnataka state. From this point, the Sharavathi river flows north-westerly for about 130 kilometres to join the Arabian Sea at Honnavar in the Uttara Kannada district. On its way, the water of the river drops down from a height of 830 feet, forming Jog Falls. Jog Falls is a segmented waterfall which becomes a plunge waterfall in rainy season. Jog Falls is the third-highest waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai with a drop of 1,099 ft in Meghalaya and the Dudhsagar Falls with a drop of 1,020 ft in Goa.

The rocky bed of Jog fall is about 250 yards wide. The Sharavathi river flows over this rocky bed and bends and falls about 830 feet to form a water-fall. Then the water comes down in four distinct falls, Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. Watch video at https://www.facebook.com/DrBhateRajkot/videos/3586281564939444/

The tourism department has built a view point at the top from where the view was totally mesmerizing and majestic. During the rainy season, it is rightly called mini Niagara Fall. We saw the
Jog Falls along with Mist, which made it is a memorable experience. Watch the video of the waterfall with mist at https://www.facebook.com/DrBhateRajkot/videos/165893466383798/

There are steps from the top of the viewpoint to the bottom of the hill. There are approximately 1,400 steps one needs to take to reach the bottom of the hill. The steps were under repair when we visited. Taking bath below water fall is prohibited.

There are few budget and luxury hotels for accommodation and people come to Jog fall for family and group picnic.

We watched Jog Fall for about an hour from the viewing gallery, and then started our return journey of five hours to Goa. Next day, we flew to Rajkot by direct flight.

Our trip was a memorable one.
